Turkey leaves the World Cup with their heads held high after beating the United States 1-0 in their final group match. After the match, coach Vincenzo Montella expressed great satisfaction for his team, while Pochettino, coach of the United States, rightly put the result into perspective given that his team still went through as first in the group. "We return to our homeland with our heads held high," declared Montella. "The fact that we reacted immediately after the goal conceded is something that only teams that have great team spirit do. The boys showed off all their qualities tonight." Montella was visibly emotional at the end of the match. "We played for many American fans. If we hadn't been a great team, we wouldn't have been able to do it. I'm very happy for the Turkish people and for our president. There were also situations that weren't right. At the end of the match I was very emotional. This match is worth a thousand victories." For his part, Pochettino expressed disappointment at the defeat, but underlined the importance of progressing to the next round. "Turkey is out of the tournament, I don't understand why we should feel as if we were eliminated and they weren't," Pochettino said with a hint of irony. "Our first objective was to qualify for the next round. The second objective was to qualify first in the group and we achieved that. Nobody has complimented us yet for winning such a difficult group." Even though Pochettino is happy to have won the group, it doesn't have much value for him. "Winning three games is not what writes history. What history should write is winning the World Cup."
