An absolute novelty among the eight queens of the 2026 World Cup. E
The 2026 World Cup enters its decisive phase, and UEFA once again confirms its dominance, bringing six teams among the eight best of the tournament. The competition is enriched with the recent victories of Argentina, who came from behind in the previous match, and of Switzerland, who advanced after a series of penalties, thus completing the quarter-final picture.

With these victories, the Old Continent demonstrates that it has once again dominated the football stage, with the majority of the representative teams among the last eight in the running for the title. Alongside the six European teams, there are the Argentinians, reigning champions, and Morocco, which has amazed the football world with its progress up to this stage of the tournament.

The other confederations, however, saw their national teams exit prematurely: Central and North America saw its last hopes vanish with the elimination of its teams in the round of 16, while the AFC had already lost all its representatives in the round of 32. New Zealand, OFC's sole representative, also failed to progress beyond the group stage.

But who are the eight teams that reached the quarter-finals? Among them, we find four well-known names who were already present in the previous edition of the tournament, held in Qatar. New this year include Belgium, Spain, Switzerland and Norway.

Belgium, after reaching third place in 2018, was eliminated in the first round in 2022, but returns to the quarter-finals. Spain, however, had not reached this stage since the 2010 edition, when they were crowned champions. Switzerland, for its part, had not reached the quarter-finals for 72 years, since their home World Cup in 1954. Finally, Norway, in its fourth participation in a World Cup, marks a milestone never achieved before, as in the past it had only managed to get past the round of 16.

These are the eight teams ready to challenge for the title:

 • France: present in the quarterfinals for 4 years, the last time in 2022.
 • Morocco: they also return to the quarterfinals after 4 years.
 • Norway: first time ever in the quarter-finals.
 • England: present in the quarterfinals for 4 years.
 • Spain: missing the quarterfinals for 16 years.
 • Belgium: the last time in the quarterfinals was 8 years ago.
 • Argentina: reigning champions, present in the quarterfinals for 4 years.
 • Switzerland: absent from the quarterfinals for 72 years.

As the tournament progresses, expect a crescendo of emotions that will culminate in the final match of this extraordinary edition of the World Cup.
