The Mexican storm was too strong for Ecuador: the masters
Mexico beat Ecuador in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, qualifying for the quarterfinals. Gilberto Mora made history as the youngest player at this stage since Pelé.
Liverpool are in talks over the transfer of Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, while they could also lose Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister.
Anfield want around £35m for Jones, but Inter have so far submitted a bid of around £22m. However, the Italian club are willing to wait for the 25-year-old, who only has one year left on his contract. At the same time, uncertainty surrounding Alexis Mac Allister, whose contract expires in less than two years, is pushing Richard Hughes and Andoni Iraola to consider securing an additional midfielder for next season.
The rumors about Camavinga have increased. The 23-year-old Real Madrid midfielder has had a difficult season, slipping down the Bernabeu hierarchy and losing his place in the French national team. With a contract until 2029, Camavinga could benefit from a change of scenery and Madrid appear willing to listen to offers in the region of €60m (£51m).
According to Fichajes, Liverpool's new technical director, Andoni Iraola, is leading the search for the young left-footed talent. It has been claimed that there have already been high-level talks between the two clubs and also with the player's entourage. "Anfield leaders have already made direct contact with their counterparts at the Bernabeu to formally inquire about the terms of a potential strategic transfer," the report reads.
Iraola, coming from Usurbil, sees the complex situation of the French player as an unmissable market opportunity, considering that his physical characteristics adapt perfectly to the competitive pace of the Premier League. The English club is confident they can take advantage of the fact that the Madrid board has set the exit clause at around 60 million euros. British intermediaries have intensified telephone contacts with the player's representatives to work out a very attractive salary offer that could facilitate his immediate move to English football.
However, Camavinga's situation is complicated. The midfielder has been in Madrid since 2021 and has already won two Champions League titles. The report suggests the player is not yet ready to call it quits on his career in the Spanish capital, confident he can regain a place in Jose Mourinho's squad. "The talented midfielder has absolutely no intention of leaving Real Madrid this summer and has given his agents a firm order to freeze any financial offers from abroad," the report states.
Liverpool will therefore face a tough task in sealing a deal for Camavinga, who appears much more accessible at that price than other names such as Adam Wharton and Alex Scott, whose market values are approaching nine-figure sums.
