Nyland, who is the free agent goalkeeper who played for Brazil
The goalkeeper born in 1990, Ørjan Nyland, was one of the undisputed protagonists of the match valid for the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup, where Norway triumphed against Brazil with a score of 2-1. Born in Volde, Nyland will turn 36 on September 10th and has demonstrated his worth at the MetLife Stadium, saving a penalty kicked by Bruno Guimaraes at the start of the match and making decisive interventions on players like Endrick. His performance was rewarded with a 7.5 in his report card from TMW, who highlighted his ability to keep a clean sheet in the first half, as well as a couple of crucial interventions. In the second half, he continued to shine, keeping Endrick's dangerous shot away from goal after it had been deflected by Ajer. Despite Neymar's late penalty hitting his goal, Norway's and Nyland's joy at the historic result remained undiminished.

But where does Nyland currently play? The goalkeeper has been free for less than a week. His contract with Sevilla expired and was not renewed after three seasons, the last of which saw the goalkeeper only feature on five occasions in La Liga. Nyland began his career at Hødd, then moved at 23 to Molde, one of Norway's most prestigious clubs, where he played for two seasons. His career abroad began in Germany, at Ingolstadt, where he had a first year of apprenticeship between the first and second teams, before becoming a regular in the Second Bundesliga.

In 2018, lured by Aston Villa, he made the leap to the Championship, helping to bring the club back to the Premier League. However, since then, his path has been characterized by roles as a second goalkeeper, with spells at Norwich, Bournemouth and Reading, before returning to Germany with Red Bull Leipzig. His adventure at Sevilla began in August 2023, where he once again found space between the posts, but is now looking for a new team. Meanwhile, with the Norwegian national team, he has earned a starting place, returning to prominence in 2021, accumulating a total of 75 appearances to date, the last of which was the most significant, contributing masterfully to Norway's run to the quarter-finals of the World Cup, just a few days before his 36th birthday.
