England beat the Democratic Republic of Congo with a score of 2-1 in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. With this victory, the English become the first team in the history of the World Cup to win three consecutive matches against African teams in the play-offs. Indeed, England had previously beaten Senegal in 2022 (3-0) and Cameroon in 1990 (3-2). The 2026 World Cup is taking place between the United States, Canada and Mexico, from June 11 to July 19. Argentina are the reigning champions, having won the final of the tournament in Qatar in 2022 against France 4-2 after penalties, following a 3-3 draw.
