The KNVB has decided to file a complaint against people who expressed themselves in a racist manner on social media towards players of the Dutch national team. This was announced by the football federation on Friday afternoon. The KNVB thus intends to send a clear message. 'There are limits and those who cross them will face consequences.'

The Oranje national team has already been eliminated from the World Cup, having lost on penalties against Morocco on Tuesday night. Justin Kluivert, Quinten Timber and Crysencio Summerville failed to convert their penalties, sparking a series of negative reactions, including on Instagram. The trio were forced to temporarily disable comments on their posts. However, according to the KNVB, several racist remarks were reported to Meld.OnlineDiscriminatie.nl (MOD) in the past week. The federation actively collaborates with this organization for the 'Discrimination = Chance-less' campaign. MOD's legal department is currently investigating the legality of the reports and can take various actions, such as removing comments or even accounts, in addition to filing complaints.

On Friday afternoon, the federation announced that it had filed a complaint for insult against people who expressed themselves in a racist manner towards the Dutch national team. 'At the request of MOD, several utterances have already been removed from X and the request to remove an account with the mention of 'siegheil' is ongoing. Cases suitable for reporting are now transferred via the KNVB to the OM, with which the KNVB has already made contact. Of course, anyone can also file a complaint directly. On behalf of the KNVB, President Frank Paauw will personally ensure this.' The federation stresses that it is not possible to monitor every single racist reaction, but wants to send a clear message: 'There are limits and those who cross them will face consequences.'
