Joselu supports Mourinho's return to Real Madrid, underlining the need for discipline in the dressing room after a difficult season marked by internal conflicts.
Former Real Madrid striker Joselu has given his opinion on Jose Mourinho's return, claiming he could bring the authority and discipline the team's dressing room needs after a complex season. During an interview on Iker Casillas' podcast, 'Bajo los Palos', the Spain international analyzed Madrid's current situation and explained why he believes Mourinho can make a difference.
Joselu, who has been part of the Real Madrid squad until recently, said Mourinho possesses exactly the kind of personality needed to restore order within the team. “Mourinho is a coach with a lot of character, with ideas that Madrid need, because they need a change, and he is a coach who has what it takes to put people in their place,” said the former Spain striker, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
His statements seem to suggest that internal egos have become an issue within the squad this past season. When asked if Mourinho was the right appointment, Joselu admitted that only time will tell, but he has no doubts about one point: "Could it be the best option? We won't know until the months pass," he noted.
However, he was much more forceful when discussing the atmosphere within the dressing room. "Does Real Madrid need discipline, especially in the dressing room? Yes, one hundred percent," said the striker. Joselu concluded by underlining that a club of Real Madrid's caliber cannot afford another disappointing campaign. Last season was marked by internal problems and conflicts in the Real Madrid dressing room. A division developed within the team under the leadership of Xabi Alonso, which led to the coach's dismissal mid-season. Things haven't improved much under Alvaro Arbeloa either. Indeed, the situation has worsened, with players such as Antonio Rudiger, Alvaro Carreras, Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde involved in altercations behind the scenes in the dressing room. Given the circumstances, Joselu believes Mourinho's leadership and strong personality could be crucial in restoring standards as Real Madrid look to bounce back next season.
