Arsenal have received a major boost in their bid to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. According to the latest reports, the Magpies are already considering a replacement, with interest in Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha, making this one of the most exciting transfer sagas of the summer.

Despite Newcastle reiterating that Guimaraes is not for sale, their pursuit of another midfielder could be seen as wise planning in case circumstances change before the transfer window closes. Arsenal are among several clubs closely monitoring the future of Guimaraes, who has been the object of admiration from the north London club for some time. The Gunners have already started informal discussions with the player's representatives to better understand his current situation at St James' Park.

Arsenal are said to have made an informal offer of around £55m, but no official approach has been made to Newcastle. The Magpies have also made it clear that Guimaraes is not on the market, clearly communicating through the player's representatives that they have no intention of selling one of their most influential players.

Despite this position, Newcastle's interest in Nmecha has inevitably fueled speculation about their long-term plans in midfield. Nmecha has continued to improve his reputation over the past year, impressing during Germany's World Cup campaign. After scoring against Curaçao, he also provided an assist in Germany's dramatic win against Ivory Coast, demonstrating his ability to influence matches. These performances further increased interest in the midfielder, who has become one of Dortmund's key players.

Newcastle's interest in Nmecha could be a way to prepare for every possible scenario. As well as Guimaraes, teammate Sandro Tonali has also attracted the attention of the transfer market, meaning the club may look for potential replacements before making any decisions on outgoing players. Tonali is followed by two Premier League teams, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, with Spurs currently looking ahead.

Newcastle have already set an impressive price of £100 million for Tonali, but neither Spurs nor United have been intimidated by their exorbitant demands. The Magpies could formalize their interest in Nmecha if they were to lose one of their players like Guimaraes or Tonali this summer. However, a deal for the German midfielder would not be simple at all. Nmecha recently signed a contract extension with Dortmund which expires in 2030 and includes a £73.5 million release clause. This assessment could represent a major obstacle for Newcastle, who are severely restricted by the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). It is suggested that Newcastle would prefer to negotiate a lower fee, although convincing Dortmund to reduce their demands could be difficult. Nmecha is an important player for Dortmund, and his improved contract puts the Bundesliga vice-champions in a strong position to negotiate.

The 25-year-old made 42 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund last season, helping them finish second with five goals and three assists. He won 53% of his aerial duels and 63% of his aerial battles, while averaging 1.3 tackles, 3.8 ball recoveries and one exit per 90 minutes. Whether Newcastle can pull off a swoop for Nmecha remains to be seen, but identifying him as a target could give Arsenal the feeling they have a chance of snatching Guimaraes away from St. James' Park. The Brazilian would be a phenomenal addition for the Gunners, as they look to consolidate their position at the top of the Premier League table. They will go into next season as favorites to win the title, and bringing in a player of Guimaraes' quality would be a huge plus.
