Former Brighton midfielder Warren Aspinall has given his opinion on the club's purchase of young Nigerian striker Zadok Yohanna for £21.5 million. Aspinall said he was convinced Brighton had found a "diamond" to exploit. Yohanna, who comes from Swedish club AIK Stockholm, has scored 5 goals and provided 4 assists in 18 games since making his debut in August 2025. Speaking on the Albion Unlimited podcast, Aspinall said: "I think it's a major coup, because two other big clubs in England were following him, Chelsea and Newcastle, so Brighton got ahead of them, which is very good. Maybe it's the right price for an 18-year-old who is showing off, a good player. We have to ask ourselves: have we found another diamond to exploit? That's what we're looking for, diamonds in the rough to polish and sell for big money." Brighton are aiming to maintain their reputation as a club that develops young talent and then sells them on for high prices. Among Brighton's most notable transfers in recent years are:

  • Moises Caicedo to Chelsea: 100 million pounds, a figure that can rise to 115 million
  • Marc Cucurella to Chelsea: 60 million
  • Joao Pedro to Chelsea: 60 million
  • Ben White to Arsenal: 50 million
  • Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool: 35 million

Aspinall also spoke about another player who could earn Brighton a significant sum: Jan Paul van Hecke. Tottenham would have shown interest in the Dutch defender and would have already presented an initial offer to Brighton, who rejected it. According to Aspinall, if Van Hecke were to decide to move to Tottenham, it would be a profitable deal for Brighton too. "Tottenham is a great club, one of the best in Europe. They have one of the best stadiums in Europe, probably the best, and they haven't had good results in recent seasons, but they can win trophies. It's a question of who you want to represent and if Van Hecke wants to go to Tottenham, it would be a good deal for Brighton. Brighton could invest the money from the sale again," concluded Aspinall.
