Newcastle United are currently in talks with Osasuna to sign Spanish winger Victor Munoz. The English club are looking for a replacement for Anthony Gordon, who recently moved to Barcelona for £69.3 million, and Munoz is one of their main targets. However, a deal has not yet been reached for the speedy attacker, who has a €40m (£34.5m) release clause.

Newcastle are looking to act quickly in this summer window, having already signed promising goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Stade de Reims for £18.5 million. “The best players available on the market don't stay long,” coach Eddie Howe said in May. "The speed with which the transfer market moves is very high. The teams are very efficient and we have to be among those teams."

Munoz, who previously played for Real Madrid and Barcelona, is currently preparing for Spain's opening match at the World Cup. Luis de la Fuente's team will face Cape Verde in Atlanta on June 15th.

This summer already looks very different for Newcastle. While the Alexander Isak saga dragged on until the club sold the player to Liverpool for £125m on the closing day of the transfer window, this time the club agreed to let Gordon go to Barcelona before the window officially opened. Furthermore, while Newcastle spent £55 million to make Anthony Elanga their first signing last summer, the team have changed strategy this year, targeting players of continental origin rather than the market for players already established in the Premier League.

Newcastle have widened their recruitment net, aiming to sign younger players with growth potential, such as Jaouen, who is 20, and Munoz, who is 22. As BBC Sport previously reported, Newcastle are also looking to use data more intelligently, after sporting director Ross Wilson joined a club whose operations lagged far behind those he left at Nottingham Forest in October 2025. But more importantly, they are moving quickly. Having already signed Jaouen, Newcastle are looking to acquire Munoz, potentially even before the player has the opportunity to be noticed by other clubs with a possible World Cup appearance off the bench.
