Why it matters
Marc Cucurella's words highlight the importance of having patience with José Mourinho's Real Madrid, especially at a time when the team is facing initial difficulties in LaLiga. The pressure on immediate results can negatively influence the development of a long-term project, and Cucurella underlines that it is essential to evaluate Mourinho's work at the end of the season.

- Marc Cucurella underlines the importance of having patience with José Mourinho's Real Madrid, suggesting that the team should be judged on a seasonal basis and not just on initial results.
- A season, not seven games, should define Mourinho's Madrid.
The Spanish defender acknowledged that the start of the season had not met expectations, but noted the changes linked to the start of a new project under the leadership of a new coach. He also highlighted the limited preparation time some players have had, arguing that the team needs time to form and find its own identity.
Defeats against Betis and Atlético have put Mourinho's performance under scrutiny, with the derby defeat in particular heightening criticism of Madrid's form. Cucurella said these results should be seen in the context of a team in development, rather than as a final judgment on Mourinho's work. According to him, it is still too early to evaluate the new coach and it will be more meaningful to observe the team's progress as the season progresses.
Cucurella, who recently signed for Madrid from Chelsea for a fee of around €55 million, also acknowledged that he faces his own adaptation process. The lack of adequate preparation and the need to familiarize himself with his new teammates made the start of his adventure in Madrid complicated. However, he impressed during Spain's Nations League victories against England and Croatia, and said his aim is to reproduce for Madrid the level he showed in the national team shirt.
This personal challenge fits into the broader context of the Madrid project, where the results cannot tell the whole story before the team has had time to stabilize. Spain are scheduled to host the Czech Republic in Oviedo on October 3, before traveling to Croatia on October 6. Cucurella is also among the 30 nominees for this year's Ballon d'Or, but refused to choose between teammate Kylian Mbappé and national teammate Lamine Yamal, both of whom were nominated. For Madrid, the immediate task is to respond on the pitch as Mourinho's ideas begin to take shape. Cucurella's plea is that early defeats should not be ignored, but that a new manager and a still-adapting squad should be assessed over an entire season rather than a limited number of games.
What happens now
With the season still in its early stages, Real Madrid will have the opportunity to make up ground in LaLiga. The next meetings will be crucial to see how the team adapts to Mourinho's new style and whether it will be able to find greater cohesion and identity, as hoped for by Cucurella.
