Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin got his first World Cup start but failed to lead Belgium to victory against Iran in Los Angeles. The 25-year-old, who came on as a substitute in the opening 1-1 draw against Egypt, played at centre-half in his 15th cap for Belgium, but was replaced after 58 minutes in a match that ended goalless.

Belgium dominated the first half, but created few clear chances. The situation became further complicated after Raskin was replaced, with Club Brugge's Hans Vanaken taking his place. Nathan Ngoy received a straight red card for a foul on Mehdi Taremi in the 66th minute, after the defender lost control and allowed the Iranian to head towards goal. All three Group G matches so far have ended in draws, while New Zealand will face Egypt in their second match at 02:00 BST in Vancouver.
