Rangers have announced the purchase of Serbian midfielder Vanja Dragojevic from Partizan Belgrade for an undisclosed fee. The player, born in 2003, has signed a four-year contract with the Scottish Premier League club, with the option for a further year. Dragojevic, who has two caps for the senior national team, was captain of Partizan after playing for the club's youth team.
“We are really excited to bring Vanja on board,” said manager Derek McInnes. "He has huge potential, really interesting characteristics and has the character to be able to play in this environment. I believe he will add a lot to our group and I look forward to working with him in the coming years."
Dragojevic joined Partizan's youth system in 2021, signing a professional contract two years later and then being loaned out to third division club Teleoptik. Last season, Dragojevic made 41 appearances, scoring 4 goals and providing 4 assists, playing mainly as a defensive midfielder, thus contributing to Partizan's third place in the Serbian SuperLiga.
Rangers' new signing also took part in the two UEFA Conference League qualifying matches against Hibernian, in which Partizan, despite being down to ten men, won 3-2 in Scotland, then lost 1-0 at home and was thus excluded from the competition.
Dragojevic made his debut with the senior Serbian national team last May, in a friendly match lost 3-0 against Mexico, and on that same occasion he wore the national shirt in a preparation match for the World Cup, playing in the match won 5-1 against Cape Verde.
