Essex Police have launched a new investigation into West Ham co-owner David Sullivan after a BBC and Times investigation revealed multiple allegations of sexually predatory and exploitative behavior towards women dating back to the 1980s. Sullivan has categorically denied the allegations. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has held urgent meetings with the Football Association and West Ham to clarify matters after the BBC revealed that Sullivan had been banned from contact with the club's women's and youth teams for security reasons. This ban was unknown and Sullivan continued to attend the men's first team matches. In a statement, Sullivan said he had never met players from the '1-2-1' youth or women's teams during his sixteen years at West Ham. He said the complaint "has nothing to do with my time in football and never happened." “I saw it as a meaningless restriction, as it didn't impact my work in any way, so I accepted it to have a peaceful life,” Sullivan added. In response, Nandy called for a "full and urgent explanation" of how these allegations, which she described as "incredibly serious", were handled. West Ham have made it known that they have full confidence in their security measures. Meanwhile, it has emerged that one of West Ham's main sponsors, Boyle Sports, was unaware of the restrictions placed on Sullivan. Sullivan, 77, served as co-chairman of West Ham for sixteen years and following the death of his business partner David Gold in January 2023, he became the club's largest shareholder. He resigned as co-president of the club on Saturday, saying he wanted to focus his energies on fighting what he called "false and factually incorrect allegations dating back decades regarding my personal life".
