Jack Moylan is emerging as one of Cardiff City's stars on the rise, after his manager Brian Barry-Murphy highlighted there is still much to expect from the young midfielder. With five goals already under his belt this Championship season, Moylan has proven to be a good signing for the Welsh team.

After struggling for promotion with Lincoln City last season, the Irishman has become a prime target for Cardiff ahead of their return to the Championship. Since his departure from Ireland, Moylan has already made a difference by scoring twice in a crushing 5-1 win against Watford. In that match, he was deployed as a makeshift striker, a choice that highlighted his ability to hurt opposing defenses. Since making his debut for Ireland in May, he has already scored four goals in six appearances, making him a player to keep an eye on.

Currently, only a few players, such as Middlesbrough's Will Lankshear and Southampton's Cyle Larin, have scored more Championship goals than him. In addition to his five goals, Moylan also provided two assists, optimizing his contribution in attack. Barry-Murphy revealed that one of the main reasons he was signed was his ability to adapt to different situations, and confirmed that Moylan has always had the potential to be an attacking threat.

The manager noted how Moylan managed to stay calm during the match against Watford, a sign of maturity in a young player. "When he ran towards goal, it was reassuring to see him take his time, as we created good chances without always finishing them off. This was a sign of true composure that allowed us to score a great goal."

However, Barry-Murphy remained cautious about whether Moylan could remain in the striker role in the next match against currently second-placed Middlesbrough, highlighting his effectiveness as a midfielder as well. His teammate, Callum Robinson, scored his second consecutive goal as a substitute in the match against Watford, while late top scorer Yousef Salech returned to training after a shoulder injury.

The coach also added that there is still a lot to improve for Moylan: "He is a very interesting player to watch, because he is very attacking, and we don't want to take anything away from that, while trying to add the parts of his game that he needs to improve." Moylan could have landed his first hat-trick in England, having already scored two goals before half-time, including a penalty. However, when Chris Willock was brought down in the area, his spot kick was saved, thus denying Moylan the opportunity to score another goal.

“I have to admit I didn't do much planning on the penalties,” Barry-Murphy said, adding that he wasn't sure why Willock had been chosen to take the penalty, considering Salech is the team's official penalty taker. “I wasn't fully aware of the boos, but everyone seems to have been happy afterwards, and I'm sure the supporters will appreciate the performance, and Chris played a big part in that, so I'm sure we'll all support him.”

What happens now

With the Championship season underway, Moylan is expected to continue to improve and consolidate his role at Cardiff City. The team will have to rely on him to maintain competitiveness in the upcoming matches, especially against direct opponents in the fight for promotion. If he maintains this level of performance, Moylan could become a key player at the end of the season, influencing Cardiff's chances of reaching the playoffs.
