Liverpool are in advanced talks with Andoni Iraola to be appointed as the team's new manager following the sacking of Arne Slot. Iraola left Bournemouth at the end of last season and is the main candidate for the Reds' bench. Liverpool are intent on closing the deal as quickly as possible and are looking for a manager who adapts to their style of play, which aims for offensive and aggressive football. No approaches have yet been made regarding Iraola's potential coaching staff, but the 43-year-old Spaniard would be interested in bringing along his deputy at Bournemouth, Tommy Elphick, a huge Liverpool fan. BBC Sport understands that Elphick has not yet had any contact with Liverpool but is reportedly interested in the opportunity. The former Bournemouth centre-back, 38, turned down last week to become Bristol City manager to explore other options. The recruitment process at Liverpool is being led by Richard Hughes, the club's sporting director, who previously worked with Iraola at Bournemouth. The Reds sacked Slot last Saturday, just a year after the Dutch manager led the team to promotion to the Premier League.
