Leeds United have officially announced that Illan Meslier is set to leave Elland Road at the end of his contract, due at the end of this month. The club stated that the French goalkeeper "will always be an important part of the club's history". Meslier joined the team in 2020 on a one-year loan, contributing to their long-awaited promotion to the Premier League and becoming a key player in the team that achieved another promotion in 2025.

However, Meslier lost his starting place last summer when the club signed Lucas Perri, while Karl Darlow's improved performances led manager Daniel Farke to choose him as number one, leaving the former Lorient goalkeeper without a place in goal. Leeds were keen to express their gratitude for Meslier's efforts, stating: "Thank you, Illan, all of us at Leeds United wish you the best in your next steps and your future career."

Furthermore, the club have confirmed that talks over a new contract with Karl Darlow are ongoing, with the current deal set to expire this summer. Darlow, thanks to his performances, has overcome the competition of Perri and Meslier, and Farke hopes to keep his current number one in the team. Sam Byram and Alex Cairns are in talks to extend their stay at Elland Road, while Facundo Buonanotte will return to his own club Brighton after his loan expires.
