Atlético Madrid has officially announced the players who will be part of the new Paseo delle Legends, changing the selection criteria which are now based on member voting. This marks a change from the previous Centennial Players' Paseo, which had sparked much controversy.
In the new Paseo, there will be only 18 players chosen by the members, and the final ranking includes illustrious names such as Fernando Torres, Luis Aragonés, Paulo Futre, Diego Pablo Simeone, Gabi Fernández Arenas, Adelardo Rodríguez, Adrián Escudero, Larbi Ben Barek, Diego Godín, Jose Eulogio Gárate, Enrique Collar, Kiko Narváez, Milinko Pantic, Diego Forlán, Alfonso Aparicio, Juan Carlos Arteche and Radamel Falcao. Griezmann is expected to join this list at the end of his career.
Over the past few days, reactions have come in from a few select legends. Fernando Torres shared an image of his last match, accompanied by a phrase he uttered on that occasion and also when he returned to the club: "One day you will have to explain to me what I did to deserve this treatment. With courage and heart, go Atleti".
Paulo Futre, however, posted a more elaborate message on social media: "I was born on the other side of the border, but I will always be one of you. I still have no words to describe what this third place means to me. Infinite thanks, colchoneros. I love you."
