Uruguay coach Marcelo Bielsa commented on the draw with Cape Verde at the 2026 World Cup, underlining how the decrease in playing intensity was a key to the result.
The coach of the Uruguayan national team, Marcelo Bielsa, expressed his opinion regarding the surprising result of the match of the 2nd day of group H of the 2026 World Cup against Cape Verde, which ended with a score of 2-2. Bielsa said: «When we defended well, we managed to win the game. When we lost control, our advantage over our opponents was reduced. A decisive factor was the drop in the intensity of the game, which shouldn't have happened." On the first day, Uruguay had drawn 1-1 against Saudi Arabia, while Cape Verde had surprisingly snatched a point from Spain, ending the match at 0-0. On the final day of the group stage, Uruguay will face Spain, while Cape Verde will play Saudi Arabia, with both matches scheduled for June 27.
