The mother of Maddy Cusack, a footballer who died prematurely on 20 September 2023, has declared in an inquest that the manager of her team, Sheffield United, compromised her mental health.
According to Deborah Cusack, if coach Jonathan Morgan had not been hired, her daughter would still be alive. The mother explained that the coach had an attitude towards her daughter that led her to feel bad, particularly regarding her weight.
Deborah added that Maddy had always felt confident, but with Morgan taking over the team, she would start changing her eating habits and exercising to try and lose weight.
"You don't have to feel good as a player, you have to be under your control. If you are stronger than him, you have to be reduced in some way", declared the mother during the investigation.
Deborah also said her daughter told her she felt like her career was at risk because of the coach's attitude toward her.
The investigation continues and promises to be full of revelations.
