Croatia qualified for the round of 16 by beating Ghana 2-1.
Croatia qualified for the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup by beating already qualified Ghana, with a score of 2-1. Dalic's team needed to avoid defeat against the Black Stars to secure a place in the knockout stages, but Vlasic's goal seven minutes from time ensured the Croatians qualified as second in the group, behind England, who beat Panama in the other group match. Ghana defender Derrick Luckassen equalized Sucic's goal, but the African team failed to maintain the tie and will have to play the round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams. Croatia's victory also ruled out Scotland's chances of qualifying. Croatia, finalists in 2018 and semi-finalists in 2022, created more chances in the first half and came close to taking the lead in the 17th minute with a shot from outside by Vlasic that hit the post. Dalic's team took the lead in the 40th minute with a great shot from outside the area by Petar Sucic, Inter midfielder. Ghana, who hadn't had a single shot on target in the first half, improved in the second half and in the 73rd minute equalized the scores with a header from Derrick Luckassen, assisted by Ernest Nuamah. However, the Ghanaians lost momentum immediately afterwards and with a few minutes to go Croatia regained the lead thanks to a header from Nikola Vlasic following a corner from Luka Modric, taking home a deserved victory.
