Mbappé's position on the pitch will undergo a change: he will no longer play as a traditional number 9, but will drop deeper, increasing his involvement in build-up play and also taking on more defensive responsibilities, something he has acknowledged needs to improve. It remains to be seen how this plan will materialize, but considering the performances shown in the last two seasons and during the World Cup, it is clear why Real Madrid want to make Kylian Mbappé the standard-bearer of the team for the future.
