Real Madrid have confirmed the arrival of Ibrahima Konaté, who will leave Liverpool scoreless at the end of June. The French centre-back, part of his nation's 2026 World Cup squad, expressed disappointment at not being able to greet the Liverpool fans.

Real Madrid have reached an agreement to sign Ibrahima Konaté on a four-year contract when the French central defender leaves Liverpool. The 27-year-old will leave the Reds on a free transfer at the end of June after the two sides failed to agree a new contract due to a disagreement between the defender and the club over his value and salary. Real Madrid said they had reached an agreement with Konaté "to make him a Real Madrid player for the next four seasons, until 30 June 2030". Konaté, who is part of his country's 2026 World Cup squad, joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 for £35m on a five-year deal. He made 183 appearances for the Anfield club in all competitions, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and two League Cups. Konaté recently said he was "deeply saddened not to have had the opportunity to say goodbye" to Liverpool fans when the Reds played their final Premier League match of the season against Brentford on 24 May. He added: "At that moment, I didn't know it would be my last time wearing this shirt in front of you." Konaté joins Real Madrid after the Spanish club appointed José Mourinho as their new manager for his second term. Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella will also join the Bernabeu club this summer. Portuguese midfielder Silva, 31, is another free transfer for Real Madrid following his departure from Manchester City. Spanish defender Cucurella has been signed by Chelsea in a deal worth £52 million.
