Stade Brest trainer Éric Roy died on Wednesday at the age of 58, after battling pancreatic cancer. Roy had an existing contract with Stade Brest until mid-2027. The mourning was announced on the manager's social media. Roy coached Stade Brest for 3.5 years, and with him goalkeeper Marco Bizot achieved great successes, such as the historic third position in Ligue 1 in the 2023/24 season, which guaranteed Stade Brest's first participation in the Champions League, with opponents of the caliber of Real Madrid and Barcelona. Roy also had a successful playing career. As a midfielder, he reached the UEFA Cup final with Olympique Marseille in the 1998/99 season. He also played for OGC Nice, Olympique Lyon, Sunderland, Troyes and Rayo Vallecano, before finally retiring at Nice. Right on the Côte d'Azur, Roy began his coaching career in 2010. After a brief experience at Watford in 2019, he moved to Stade Brest in 2023, where he made history with the club.
