Real Madrid is close to closing for Cucurella, and this will lead to several exits in the defensive department.
Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella is one step away from becoming a Real Madrid player. The deal is believed to be virtually done, with final details remaining to be worked out. Although nothing has been officially signed, negotiations between the parties are at an advanced stage and confidence is growing that the transfer will be concluded shortly.
Cucurella's arrival could lead to a reshuffle in Real Madrid's options for the left-back role, AS reported. The proposed deal sees Real Madrid paying around 50 million euros for the Spanish full-back, who is expected to sign a four-year contract. With his arrival, the hypothesis is now gaining ground that Real Madrid may listen to offers for their current left-backs: Alvaro Carreras, Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia.

According to the report, Jose Mourinho wants Cucurella and Carreras to compete for the left-back spot, a scenario that puts the futures of Mendy and Garcia under serious consideration. Both players are now seen as potential starters, while Carreras continues to be highly regarded despite the transfer rumors surrounding him. The young former Benfica talent is still highly esteemed by Mourinho, although the club would be willing to listen to exceptional offers for him.
As for Mendy, Real Madrid recognize that it is difficult to place him on the transfer market due to his current injury situation, with expectations that the player will not return to action before November. Therefore, Garcia's future appears the most uncertain, especially with his contract expiring in 2027 and no negotiations for a renewal continuing. The Spanish defender had already been very close to leaving the Santiago Bernabeu in January, when AFC Bournemouth pressured him to sign him, but Florentino Perez blocked the move. However, with the arrival of Cucurella which will further increase competition for the left-back role, Garcia is also expected to say goodbye to Real Madrid.
As for Mendy, a decision on his future will only be made in 2027, given that it is unlikely that the player will be available again before the end of this year.
