Real Madrid have reached an agreement to buy Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella for €60 million, with an announcement expected shortly. The deal is done and Cucurella is currently on international duty with Spain.

Real Madrid pulled off another major transfer coup yesterday, reaching a verbal agreement to sign Marc Cucurella. The Chelsea defender is set to join Los Blancos on a long-term contract, becoming the fourth player to have agreed a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, although none have been officially announced by the club. Fabrizio Romano has already given his approval for the transfer, adding that it will be made official after the World Cup. Romano has now provided a key update on Cucurella's transfer, saying the move could be announced as early as today. This development is significant given that Real Madrid were initially expected to announce it after the World Cup. This also comes after Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez gave his "approval" through some of his social media actions, sparking further rumors and tension regarding Cucurella's status at Chelsea. Therefore, it would make sense that Real Madrid could make the deal official early, knowing that Cucurella will definitely play for Los Blancos next season. According to Romano, Cucurella's contract is now signed and sealed and it is just a matter of time before it is made official. Real Madrid will pay Chelsea a fixed sum of 55 million euros plus a further 5 million euros in bonuses, bringing the total package to 60 million euros. The Blues have already allowed Cucurella to undergo medical tests, a clear sign that all parties are looking to conclude the formalities without delay. Cucurella, however, is currently busy with the national team, as he is a key player for Spain who will look to start their campaign against Cape Verde today. The Chelsea defender is likely to start that match, beating another former Barcelona player, Alejandro Grimaldo. Real Madrid will certainly be keeping an eye on Cucurella's performances, as he looks set to become the club's starting left-back next season.
