The father of Portuguese national team assistant coach Ricardo Carvalho has died at the age of 69. The news was announced by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) on its official website. On the morning of June 29, Carvalho was with the team during a training session in Palm Beach, Florida, where the national team is preparing for the 2026 World Cup. He is expected to return to Portugal soon to attend the funeral. The Portuguese national team reached the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, finishing second in group K with five points. Now they will have to face Croatia in the 1/16 final match. It is currently unclear whether Carvalho will be able to attend the match.
