Manchester City do not appear to be slowing down after completing a record deal for Elliot Anderson. Members of the club's recruitment staff have monitored Sandro Tonali for over twelve months, considering him a potential key piece for the midfield. As Tottenham look to finalize their ambitious midfield operation, interest from the Manchester club has forced Newcastle to actively search for replacements. Newcastle United bosses are preparing for real interest in Sandro Tonali's transfer from Manchester City, according to a new report. City Football Academy's transfer department has sent a clear message across the Premier League by completing a record £116 million package to secure Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, pending the completion of his medical. However, rather than conclude the midfield rebuild with the signing of the young Englishman, Sporting Director Hugo Viana and new manager Enzo Maresca appear determined to add further pieces. With Maresca set to officially begin his tenure in the coming days following the end of the Guardiola era, the aim appears to be to build a versatile and physically imposing skeleton capable of controlling the game. This continued recruitment drive from Manchester City has put Newcastle United in an awkward defensive position as they navigate the opening weeks of the summer window. According to the Telegraph's Luke Edwards, while Tottenham have done "all the initial work" to sign Sandro Tonali so far this summer, Manchester City have been in "regular dialogue" with Newcastle. City's monitoring of Tonali has been ongoing for over a year and the club has asked to be informed of any developments regarding a potential sale of the midfielder. The 26-year-old is aware of City's interest and, although described as "interested" by the Spurs option, knows "a big decision" will be needed should an offer come from the North West. Perhaps most interestingly, having finalized the deal for Elliot Anderson, Manchester City could now step up their interest in Sandro Tonali, and sources at Newcastle expect this to happen, already preparing potential replacements. Alongside this possible search for the Italian international, Hugo Viana is managing an assortment of moving parts within the club, with an eye also on a new right-back. Some reports suggest City have already set a £45 million cap valuation for Chelsea's Malo Gusto as they look for a player to partner Matheus Nunes in that role ahead of the new season. Furthermore, City is evaluating Tottenham's interest in midfielder Savinho, which could push Viana to return to the market to reinforce the attacking department in the event of the Brazilian's departure.
