When Hansi Flick arrived at Barcelona a couple of seasons ago, one of the first decisions he made was to make Marc Casado and Marc Bernal a key part of his first team plans. The two were the linchpins in Flick's first matches that season, but their partnership was brutally ended after just three matches, when Marc Bernal suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury. With Frenkie De Jong also injured at the time, Barça desperately needed a defensive midfielder to step up and take responsibility, and that's what Casado did. The captain of the former Barça Atletic had a simply extraordinary first half of the season under Flick. He was performing at such a high level that he received a call-up to Luis de la Fuente's Spanish national team. However, Casado's importance began to slowly decline once De Jong returned to the team, and even the exploits of form, pace and consistency shown in the first part of the season faded in the second. The Masia product deserves regular minutes, which however he will not have at Barça, and therefore a transfer seems the logical solution for all interested parties this summer. According to Tuttosport in Italy, reported by Mundo Deportivo, super agent Jorge Mendes offered Casado to AC Milan, during talks which also involved other players, including Gonçalo Ramos. Casado in Italy? The Barcelona midfielder born in 2001 is one of the names considered by the Serie A club, while Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, Monaco and Al-Hilal have also shown interest in him. Casado's future at Barça seems to have come to an end, and the Catalans aim to collect between 20 and 30 million euros from his possible transfer. AC Milan are still waiting to resolve their midfield situation, with players such as Youssouf Fofana having emerged as potential sales, before committing to a potential signing of Casado. A move to AC Milan would be a big step for Casado. Serie A would test his physical level, but his intensity and positional discipline could help him adapt. What to expect from Casado? For Barça, the fact that Mendes is trying to increase interest in his client is very useful. More competition means more leverage, and this is important when the club is aiming to get at least 20 million euros and preferably a figure closer to 30 million. Casado is a La Masia player, and losing young home-grown midfielders always leads to a certain bitterness, but this is a deal that Barcelona will have to make. The club needs sales, and Casado is one of those few players who can generate a significant amount without affecting the structure of the first team. However, the fact that Milan have received the offer for the 22-year-old midfielder does not mean that a deal is close. However, should the Rossoneri make an offer, it would give Casado the opportunity to go to a club with a great tradition and continue his career. It remains to be seen whether AC Milan will make a real foray to try and acquire Casado from Barcelona this summer.
