The World Cup is already underway. There are 102 games left to play until the final in New York. From now on, we hope to talk about football, about Pedri, Messi or Lamine Yamal. Or about refereeing controversies and this new instruction according to which anyone who covers their mouth to argue with an opponent must go outside. Finally we will return to discussing VAR and not this preview of a World Cup which is being played for the first time in three different countries and only one of them is featuring acts of shame. Three recent examples that should make Gianni Infantino blush who, for some time now, has transformed himself into the voice of his master, that is Donald Trump. Iran will play all three group matches in the United States, in Los Angeles and Seattle, but their headquarters will be in Mexico, and the US government has only granted them 24-hour visas. With this they have to make a long trip on game day, play and return to Tijuana. Crazy thing. A real sporting slap that FIFA allows. Second example: the Somali referee Omar Artan, considered one of the best in Africa, was excluded from the World Cup. For what reason? FIFA barred him from the competition after US police would not allow him to enter the country. The interrogation at Miami airport lasted 11 hours, he was arrested, he was accused of terrorism and he was expelled and repatriated to Türkiye without having the opportunity to defend himself. Third example: European national teams are welcomed in the United States with red carpets. Instead, the images of the humiliating one-by-one checks reserved for Senegal's players went around the world. In fact, all the respect and anti-racism campaigns carried out by FIFA have been cancelled.
