Barcelona close to completing their second summer signing
Barcelona are one step closer to signing Racing Santander defender Jorge Salinas as their second signing of the summer. The club is looking to negotiate his release clause as they integrate Salinas into their first-team plans.
Barcelona are close to completing the purchase of young Racing Santander defender Jorge Salinas, which would represent the team's second arrival in this summer transfer window. As reported by SPORT, Barça managed to get ahead of the competition thanks to the player's desire to wear the Blaugrana shirt. The interest around Salinas is broad; clubs such as Newcastle, Bologna, PSG, Eintracht Frankfurt, Atletico Madrid, Porto and Bayer Leverkusen have all been linked to the 19-year-old Spaniard. The main current issue concerns the exit clause: Racing Santander believe it is set at €8 million, but Barcelona are trying to explore alternative options to avoid paying the full amount. The club is considering including one of the reserve team players on loan at Racing in the contract, which could be interesting for the Cantabrian team as they prepare for a new season in a higher division. This strategy appears astute on the part of Barça, who need young defensive talents, but must also manage their budget carefully. If they can reduce the cash cost by offering Racing a worthwhile loan player, this could prove to be a win-win deal for all parties involved. Salinas accepted the idea of joining Barcelona after learning of the club's plans for him. He will complete the pre-season training camp under the guidance of Hansi Flick and will receive a first-team licence. This aspect is fundamental, because Barcelona is not just selling a brand, but is proposing a project to the young footballer. Salinas is a young, left-footed, physically interesting defender and has already shown that he can contribute in attack, with seven assists made this season for Racing. His arrival does not mean that Barcelona have abandoned their interest in Joao Cancelo, which is important. Cancelo remains an operation apart thanks to his versatility and the immediate starting role he can fill. Salinas would instead represent a long-term purchase, with great potential for the present and future. If Barça manages to close the deal, it will be a further success for Deco, who is making waves in this transfer window.
