The Democratic Republic of Congo achieved a historic victory against Uzbekistan, thus securing passage to the knockout round of the World Cup for the first time.
The Democratic Republic of Congo reached the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup for the first time, beating Uzbekistan 3-1 in their final group match. The Africans, who had lost their previous two group matches, managed to win thanks to a great performance after going behind in the score.
Uzbekistan took the lead in the 18th minute with a goal from Murodjonakbarov, but the Democratic Republic of Congo equalized in the 46th minute with a penalty converted by Mbokani. In the second half the Congolese scored two more goals with Bukasa in the 53rd minute and Bolingi in the 90th minute.
Thanks to this victory, the Democratic Republic of Congo achieved third place in group C and will face England in the round of 16.
