Gerrard: 'The right time to sack Slot'
Steven Gerrard, former Liverpool midfielder, approves of the management's decision to sack Arne Slot. Despite acknowledging the difficulties of following in Jürgen Klopp's footsteps, Gerrard criticizes the team for their mixed performance and suggests Andoni Iraola as a possible successor.
Former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard claims the club's management were right to sack Arne Slot. His comments come ahead of the Champions League final, where he will provide his analysis for TNT Sports.
Gerrard reported that although Slot played an important role for Liverpool, the team's performance last season was disappointing. "It is particularly difficult to win the Premier League, and I know this better than many others. It must not be forgotten that he will remain in the history of the club and will always be remembered. It was extremely difficult to succeed Jürgen Klopp, and he did a great job in his first year."
However, Gerrard found it difficult to follow Liverpool in the final ten matches of the season. "In the last ten games, and for most of the season, it didn't look like the Liverpool we know. The style of play was difficult to watch. It was like a team without an identity. When I heard about his departure, I was initially shocked. But analyzing the situation, I think the time is right."
Gerrard is not surprised that Liverpool were already looking for a new manager, mentioning Andoni Iraola as a manager with the potential to get the team back on track. Liverpool finished the season in fifth place in the Premier League, still guaranteeing a place in the Champions League, while in this competition and in the FA Cup, the team reached the quarter-finals under Slot's leadership.
