FIFA said it was not aware, at this stage, of any fans who managed to get into the opening World Cup match between England and Croatia without a ticket. According to some testimonies from people present at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, a significant number of fans bypassed security and entered the event venue without any control. A witness told Mail Sport: "There were large spaces on either side of the ticket barriers and people were passing calmly. There were volunteers, mostly elderly women, and they weren't stopping anyone." A FIFA spokesperson said: “At this stage, we have no indication of fans entering the stadium without a valid ticket for the match in question.” The official attendance announced for the match was 70,389 spectators, just below the official capacity of 70,649 confirmed by FIFA before the tournament. The price of tickets for the tournament was one of the most discussed topics leading up to the event. The cheapest tickets sold through the England fan travel scheme were initially set at £198 for the match against Croatia, but, after some discontent among fans, FIFA promised to make 10% of the match tickets in this lot available at $60 (£45). England won their opening World Cup match at Arlington, with Harry Kane scoring a brace to start their Golden Boot run in style. The captain's two goals were canceled out by Martin Baturina and Petar Musa, but after harsh words from coach Thomas Tuchel midway through the match, the team won 4-2. Jude Bellingham restored England's lead just two minutes after returning to the pitch, before Marcus Rashford sealed the late points from the bench. England face Ghana in Boston on Tuesday and a win would qualify Tuchel's team for the knockout stages.
