Everton are close to sealing a deal for Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney. The 24-year-old was key to Middlesbrough's promotion bid, which ended in disappointment when the team lost to Hull City in the play-off final at Wembley last month. The final fee for the transfer is still being discussed, but there is talk of at least £16m. Hackney was born in Redcar and joined Boro's academy at under-10 level. Crystal Palace had shown interest in the player, but Hackney was said to be keen to work with David Moyes at Everton, who are now close to sealing a deal for the midfielder.
