Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has spoken of how Jamie Vardy is a source of inspiration for his attacking play, particularly his ability to attack defenses in the Premier League. During the first episode of a podcast, 39-year-old Vardy revealed details of a particular moment that sparked disappointment among Leicester fans at the Etihad Stadium.

"We played Manchester City away [in 2023], losing. [Erling] Haaland had just scored and we were about to go again. I was next to him in the middle of the pitch and let out a little laugh, getting criticized by the Leicester fans," Vardy said.

He continued: "But I was just laughing because Haaland turned around and said, 'I got that move watching your videos'. So I just said, 'Well, can you stop doing that?!'" This exchange highlights Vardy's devastating intuition in manipulating central defenders, which Haaland has matched with his powerful physicality, creating a hybrid profile that is difficult for modern defenses to counter.

While Manchester City's new manager, Enzo Maresca, and Sporting Director, Hugo Viana, are restructuring the team's attack, Haaland's admiration for Vardy's ability to move directly and intuitively highlights the strategic needs to regain the championship title from the Arsenal team next season. Vardy has revealed his experience amidst change as City prepare for the upcoming summer transfer window, looking to further strengthen their squad.
