Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has been left shocked by Aston Villa's asking price for Morgan Rogers, with the Lions demanding a whopping £130million. Petit argues that this figure is difficult to justify, even if Rogers had an extraordinary season.

Rogers has emerged as one of the Premier League's most sought-after attacking players following a successful campaign with Villa. Arsenal are among the clubs keeping an eye on the 23-year-old as they look to add creativity and depth to their attack ahead of the new season.

It is reported that Aston Villa would demand up to £130 million to sell Rogers, a figure which would break the Premier League transfer record, currently held by Swedish striker Alexander Isak following his move from Newcastle United to Liverpool for £125 million in the summer of 2025.

Rogers appears to be open to a move to Premier League champions Arsenal, while the prospect of playing abroad also appeals to him. However, Villa are expected to demand a significant sum should they ultimately decide to sell one of their most prized assets.

Petit struggled to hide his disbelief when he heard the value required during an appearance on talkSPORT. The former France international described modern transfer figures as increasingly difficult to understand, especially when they exceed £1 million. “This is a ridiculous figure,” Petit told talkSPORT. "Since we passed the £100m mark, every day I see labels on players that make me say, 'Wow, my God'. If you're willing to spend that amount on a single player who can make a difference... that's the case with Declan Rice (who joined Arsenal in a £105m deal from West Ham in 2023), he's done very well. But I wish him luck because that kind of price is a lot of pressure on your shoulders."

While Rogers remains a player of interest to Arsenal, Petit believes the club must also consider other options if they fail to get Villa to lower their demands. His preferred alternative is Athletic Bilbao midfielder Nico Williams, although the young Spaniard has struggled with injuries, form and consistency of late.
