Cristiano Ronaldo scored a goal in the match of the second round of Group K of the 2026 World Championship against the national team of Uzbekistan. With this goal, Ronaldo equaled Eusébio as Portugal's top scorer in World Cup history, both with nine goals scored in the final stages of the tournaments. The match took place at NRG Stadium in Houston, United States, with Moroccan referee Jalal Jayed blowing the whistle. The final score was 2-0 in favor of the Portuguese national team. After the first round, Portugal had only gained one point, while Uzbekistan had not yet gained any points. In the third round, Portugal will face Colombia on June 28, while Uzbekistan will play the Democratic Republic of Congo, also on June 28. The 2026 World Championship takes place in the United States, Canada and Mexico, from June 11 to July 19. The current world champion is Argentina, who triumphed in the 2022 final against France, with the match ending 3-3 and decided on penalties (4-2).
