Cristiano Ronaldo may have scored in his sixth FIFA World Cup, but there is a piece of history that still eludes both him and Lionel Messi, who celebrated his 39th birthday on Wednesday. When Ronaldo broke the deadlock against Uzbekistan in Portugal's second group match, he became the second-oldest goalscorer in the tournament's history, finding the net at the age of 41 years and 138 days. However, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker is still behind Cameroonian great Roger Milla in the all-time list. Milla first competed in the 1982 World Cup in Spain, but achieved global fame at 38, scoring four goals as the Indomitable Lions reached the quarter-finals at Italia 90, becoming the first African team to do so, marking her efforts with a dance near the corner that became her trademark. Four years later, Milla was on target again at the USA 94 World Cup, hitting the net from eight meters against Russia. The dance near the corner returned, but Cameroon lost the match 6-1 and exited in the group stage. However, Ronaldo can only feel proud of having slipped Messi from third to fourth place in the list, after the Argentine striker scored at 38 years and 363 days in his team's victory over Austria. Messi could also be overtaken by Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko or Croatian midfielder Luka Modric, both 40, should either of them score a goal. Japanese defender Yuto Nagamoto is also nine months older than the Argentine legend, but has not yet made his debut. Or could a veteran goalie turn into an unexpected hero? Six goalkeepers are older than Messi, including German Manuel Neuer, Cape Verdean Vozinha and Uruguayan Fernando Muslera, but no goalkeeper has ever scored in 22 editions of the World Cup dating back to 1930. Austrian Marko Arnautovic, 37, entered the top 10 in this tournament thanks to a penalty scored in the victory against Jordan. However, Milla's record looks set to stand for a long time to come, unless Ronaldo or Messi decide to play at home when the 2030 World Cup takes place in both Portugal and Argentina. You can't go wrong, right?
