On Saturday evening, the Netherlands reached an important World Cup milestone, thanks to two quick goals from Brian Brobbey. The Sunderland striker scored the 99th and 100th goals in the history of the Dutch national team in the World Cup during the match against Sweden.

Brobbey surprised everyone by starting, leaving Crysencio Summerville on the bench, and repaid the trust of coach Ronald Koeman in lightning fashion. In fact, the player found the net twice in just seventeen minutes, scoring his first two World Cup goals in his fourteenth appearance. Only three players have scored two goals in a World Cup match faster: Lukas Podolski in 2006, Ronaldo Nazário in 2002 and Gary Lineker in 1986.

For the Netherlands, these goals represent a significant achievement, considering that Kick Smit was the first to score for the national team at the World Cup on May 27, 1934, against Switzerland, in a match they lost 3-2. Furthermore, the Netherlands has the record for goals scored against Brazil, with ten goals in five matches, followed by Argentina with nine goals in six matches. The player who holds the World Cup goals record for the Dutch national team is Johnny Rep, with seven goals, while Robin van Persie, Wesley Sneijder, Rob Rensenbrink and Arjen Robben have scored six goals each in world competitions.
