The last day of the Ekstraklasa championship was marked by serious errors on the part of the race directors. Errors that also influenced the result of the match between Jagiellonia Białystok and Górnik Zabrze (1-3). Zbigniew Boniek, former president of the PZPN, spoke on this issue and did not mince words to express his discontent.
"Yesterday (editor's note: Sunday 29 October 2023) was a wstyd day, a day of which our referees should be ashamed. Yesterday for example the match between Jagiellonia and Górnik. That over there is a match that cannot be, must not be, it is not acceptable that there are five people, because I am also talking about the VAR, who did not see what the whole world saw, that is, a penalty kick for Jagiellonia on Jesus Imaz, who was hit from behind by Janicki, and in addition there was a Jagiellonia goal also by Imaz which was incredibly disallowed for offside, which wasn't there either. So, in my opinion, this refereeing trio, and all the same, or VAR, that is, this quintet should really be withdrawn and sent home, and others come who at least know, who at least showed themselves around, not like now that they are people. unknown, that no one or few know who they are, and they have to start playing matches to see if they are up to refereeing".
These words by Boniek were pronounced in his usual YouTube appointment called 'Prawda Futbolu'.
Yesterday was a really bad day for the referees. Let's also think about the top match of the day, Legia Warsaw – Wisła Kraków. Here the referee Damian Sylwestrzak also made some sensational errors. For example, he did not give a penalty for Wisła after a foul by Bartosz Kapustka on Ertłthaler, and he also made a mistake on an aut for the Wisła team, when there was an aut for Wisła and he gave an aut for Legia, and from that the 1-0 goal for Legia was born. In short, here too there are big, big flaws on the part of the referee.
What happens now
With growing dissatisfaction with the quality of referees, the PZPN is expected to take measures to improve the training and selection of match officials. Ekstraklasa teams, such as Jagiellonia and Górnik, will have to deal with the consequences of these refereeing decisions as they prepare for their upcoming matches. The pressure to ensure fair and competent match direction will be crucial for the future of the championship and for the morale of the teams.
