Anderson and Rodri would be a 'formidable' duo for Manchester City, says Carragher
Elliot Anderson is set to join Manchester City from Nottingham Forest for a record fee, forming a strong midfield partnership with Rodri, according to Jamie Carragher.
Elliot Anderson is set to form a "formidable" midfield partnership with Rodri if he completes his long-awaited move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City, according to former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher. The England midfielder is widely reported to be close to joining City for a record fee of £116m following a deal struck with Forest. Anderson was one of the best players in the Premier League last season, recording the most touches (3,300), winning possession the most times (306), winning the most duels (297) and conceding the most fouls (80). The 23-year-old, who has made 88 appearances for Forest since joining from Newcastle United in 2024, contributed to the team's seventh-place finish in his first season, and was part of the side that reached the Europa League semi-finals last season. Anderson has since become a regular starter for England under Thomas Tuchel, starting in both of the Three Lions' matches so far at the 2026 World Cup. Former England international Carragher believes he could perfectly fill the void left by Bernardo Silva, who left the Etihad Stadium for Real Madrid at the end of his contract. “We will see in the next four or five years whether he will be worth the price of the transfer,” Carragher told Sky Sports. "If the player succeeds at Manchester City, it will be worth it. It seems like a lot right now, but we've said that about numerous players over the years. I think this is a deal that City would have done even if Pep Guardiola was still in charge, so I don't think it's just a question of the [new] manager saying they like the player, it was a deal that City wanted to get done anyway. There have been plenty of rumors before. They want to keep Rodri at the club. There are also rumors circulating about him with Real Madrid. When you think about Rodri and Bernardo Silva in the second half of last season, they were fantastic as a midfield duo. With Bernardo moving to Real Madrid, I think it's the obvious place for Elliot Anderson to join Rodri, and it will be a formidable midfield.",
